Carnival Italian style: Fano and Venice

Carnival in Italy is a really big event in Italy and it's mostly celebrated in February. All of the AFS students and I went on a trip to Fano to see the parade there and I also went to Venice with my friend Madison who's staying in Cesena with Rotary US.

The parade in Fano was amazing because there were so many people and the different floats were incredible, each one was very different and there wasn't any particular theme. The whole town was full of people and the atmosphere was just amazing; I really loved it! The people on the floats were throwing off lollies down the street and it was incredible to see even grown people holding up reversed umbrellas to catch them!!

Carnival in Venice is an event which goes on for a long time and the day that we chose to go there wasn't anything particular on but you could tell it was Carnival because the amount of people that were there was unbelievable! If you've ever been to Venice you'll know how narrow the streets are so those jammed with people made the day quite an experience. The trains both ways were packed too and we had to stand, squished between other people for most of the four hour journey. It was an amazing day though and I'm so glad I got to see the Carnival season in Venice because it certainly was very special.
